Abstract: The public sector is undergoing radical change. The Government set itself ambitious goals for transforming public services, and the Civil Service is being reformed to meet these challenges. Improvement in the public sector will require effective use of information technology. There is a pressing need for the government, who own significant and valuable asset, to review the productivity and operating costs. The use of CMMS is seen to have significant impact on the performance of the government facilities management practice. The government facility management bodies are increasingly experimenting with CMMS. In the past, government CMMS projects may have too often missed delivery dates, run over budget or failed to fulfil requirements. This research aims to improve the way Government facilities management bodies handles CMMS projects. The overall aim of the research is to make recommendations that will raise the standards of project management as applied to the development of CMMS projects. A total of 10 recommendations for enhancement to the original methodology to make it more suitable for the facility management IT related computerized maintenance management system projects were suggested from this research. These recommendations have both management and public policy implications.
