Abstract: The objective of this study is to determine the influence of different weight loads of backpacks on the trunk inclination angle and the centre of pressure (COP) of foot in primary 5-6 school children. 24 students aged 11-12 years (primary 5-6) were recruited from a local primary school. They participated in four conditions in the study. In three of the conditions, they had to carry a backpack with 3 different weights: one with the heaviest weight they carry to school each week, and the others were 10% more and 10% less than that weight. Another condition was used as a control, that is, they carried a backpack with no weight. There were 3 trials in each condition. A Vicon 3D Motion Analysis System was used to assess any changes in trunk inclination angles of the students in sagittal plane during level walking. And the force plate was used to detect any change in the centre of pressure of foot when they carried different weights during static standing. It is hypothesized that the trunk inclination angle would increase if the weight of their backpack increased. There would also be a change in the centre of pressure if the backpack weight was changed. A one-way repeated measured ANOVA was performed to analyse the data on the parameters of COP of foot and trunk inclination angle. The results showed that the COP of foot shifted forward and the trunk inclined forward significantly (p<0.05) in all weight conditions compared to the no weight condition. But there was no significant difference between each weight condition.
