Abstract: Job analysis is the basis and premise of modern human resource management. It is very essential in the human resource management system and plays an important role far realizing business target. In general, job analysis refers to the process of collecting and analyzing relevant information about work purpose, responsibilities, rights, interests, relationship of subordination, working conditions and position qualifications. Usually, an organization needs to do work analysis when it sets up a new organization, department or position; restructures a new organization, department or position; or supplements and completes an organization, department or position. Job analysis plays an irreplaceable role in the human resource management of the companies from developed countries. For Chinese businesses, work analysis is an important part in discovering modern management. The purposes of the study are to examines: 1) how to formulate a job description based on job analysis; 2) how to decide the standard of recruiting and selecting employees based on job analysis; 3) how to find out employees' training needs and provide effective training plans according to job analysis; and 4) how to establish a work performance assessment scheme based on job analysis.
The study examined the case of the Front Office of Hotel X. Through in-depth interviews with all staff members of the Front Office of Hotel X, the dissertation analyzes the collected data, which have also been checked and confirmed by the staff members in the relevant positions of the Front Office, and formulated a new job description for the positions of the Front Office. Based on that, employee recruiting and selecting standards of the Front Office were also decided. According to the training needs found in the in-depth interviews, the dissertation also worked out a training plan for staff at the Front Office. Finally, based on job analysis, the study proposed a job performance assessment scheme for staff of the Front Office. At the end of the dissertation, some suggestions on how to carry out work analysis on the basis of the findings and thoughts of the study were offered.. The dissertation also indicates the limitations of the study and the direction of future studies.
