A decision support system to enhance product development : a case studyen_US
New Product Developments are now facing growing global competition and the continual success in the marketplace depends very much on how efficient and effective the company is able to response to customer's ever changing requirements. The lacking of seamless data interchange and efficient data analysis hinders the accomplishment of successful product development and coordination of decisions across different phases of development. The realization of an efficient information exchange mechanism requires tools for data mining which allows retrieval of past development product data and supports the decision functionality within the development process. The Project adopts a decision support system to enhance the product development process by using the data mining technique called On-line Analytical Processing (OLAP) to achieve optimization of new product development process; hence providing important supports and information on future development product and cycle. To validate the feasibility of the Internet-based decision support system, a prototype has been developed for managing data mining and a case study has been conducted in a Light Emitting diode manufacture company. Based on the implementation result of the System, it is confirmed that the new decision support system would enhance the whole process workflow.en_US
