Abstract: Recently, many super-tall buildings have been or are going to be built throughout the world, especially in China. As the building height increases and the cross sections of these super-tall buildings are irregular, the sensitivity of super-tall buildings to dynamic excitations such as strong wind has increased. Consequently, these structures have become more wind-sensitive, and wind loads generally govern the design of such tall buildings. While most current codes are generally applicable to the structural design of common tall buildings, they are not guaranteed to fully cover the design of super-tall buildings. It is thus necessary to conduct comprehensive investigations into wind-induced response of super-tall buildings. The 610m-high Guangzhou New TV Tower (GNTVT), which has been instrumented with a long-term monitoring system (including anemometers, wind pressure sensors, weather station, GPS, accelerometers, tiltmeters, strain gauges, etc.) would play an important role through full-scale field measurement to investigate the wind-induced response of super-tall buildings. In this study, the measured wind response data of GNTVT during two typhoons, Hagupit and Molave, striking Guangzhou in 2008 and 2009 respectively, have been collected and presented as the original signals. At first, three popular signal analysis methods, namely Fast Fourier transform (FFT), Wavelet Transform (WT) and Hilbert Huang Transform (HHT), have been applied for signal processing and analysis. However, the results obtained by these three methods are not so satisfactory. And then, in order to improve the results, two improved HHT methods, based on Hybrid EEMD and EMD approach and based on filtering approach respectively, have also been implemented. Comparing the results obtained by the different methods, some conclusions and recommendations have been draw out at the end of the dissertation.
