Abstract: This study seeks to evaluate the performance of photovoltaics cladding and shading system applied in a ten storeys virtual building in Hong Kong by computer simulation software "EnergyPlus". Response influencing factors including tilt angle of shading device, orientation of the building and time period are investigated. Also, based on the change of tilt angle of shading device, the effect of power generation from photovoltaics shading and heat gain entering the building through window are examined. Besides, the limitations of EnergyPlus employed for photovoltaics simulation were pointed out. In the simulation, photovoltaics modules were created and installed in different area of exterior envelop of the building modeled in EnergyPlus. The results shows that maximum power output per unit area from the photovoltaics shading in eastern, southern and western side was 96kWh/m² /year with 40° tile, 125kWh/m² /year with 35° tilt angle and 103kWh/m² /year with 40° tilt angle respectively. Due to the change of sun path along a year, the top shading device would block the direct solar radiation striking to the others in several months so that the performance and the optimum tilt angle of photovoltaics shading was affected.
