Abstract: The combination of GIS and Internet was considered to serve emergency responding, but the B/S based architecture brought limitations of plug-ins installation and considerable latency. In this study, a prototype of real-time visualization system based on HTML5 is proposed to introduce great features including canvas for rendering vector mapping data, WebSockets instead of AJAX for full-duplex data communication, Web Worker for computing in parallel of main thread, Web Storage for maintaining dataset in browser. Citizens are encouraged to submit emergent report by means of SMS, and the socket server broadcasts spatial and non-spatial information to terminals where puts emergency event on the right spot overlaid the base map. It significantly increases the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency responding.
