Towards mobile agents and ontology for information retrievalen_US
This research exploits the use of mobile agent to assist user search, browse and retrieve relevant information. The difference between the mobile search agent system and other information filtering systems is that the system is a multi-agent system that exploits the use of mobile agent and some of the features of ontology for processing user query. Through the use of mobile search agent, the web site filtering can be done locally to the search engine. The communication between the search client and the search engine is minimized thus reducing the network traffic significantly. The connection between the search client and the search engine can be released during the filtering process. This is suitable for applications where network connection time is an expensive resource. By using some of the features in ontology to determine the relations among concepts, the query processing agent and the mobile search agent locate and select related web sites for a query. In addition, a test prototype was implemented to evaluate the behaviour of the system. A series of experiments that were carried out show favourable results in implementing the proposed system. Detailed expositions of the mobile search agent system are given in this research.en_US
