Abstract: Background: PPE are importance because they provided the necessary protection to the healthcare workers. It is important for the organization to make sure that the employee are properly trained and instructed on PPE gown- up and de-gown procedures. Computer simulation is the most effective learning tool to achieving successful outcome. It enables people to learn more effectively through virtual and online learning environment. PPE gown- up and de-gown performance of healthcare workers in selected hospital is assessed every year. But, there is no any training provided to current and newly joined staff from hospital level. Aim and objectives: The aim of this research is to increase healthcare workers’ competence in using personal protective equipment (PPE) with a computer simulation. Methods: It’s a quantitative experimental research design. For the intervention group, the participants will use the computer simulation programme and receive conventional PPE training. For control group, the participant will only receive conventional PPE training. Participants who are able to read and understand English and also have knowledge on basic operation of computer will be recruited. Participants are allocated randomly to one of two groups. All of the healthcare workers in Out Patient Department are recruited. Results: From the analysis, the standard deviation for the IBM Satisfaction Questionnaire was small, which meant that the rating did not vary between participants. They were consistent in their comments. The return rate of the survey was 100% of the 25 participants. Participants were all satisfied with the computer simulation. All of them received a 1-3 score on most of the questions. From Mann- Whitney U test, we found participant obtained better score in post- test than in pre- test. The intervention group and control group did not have significant different results before received any type of training (p value: 0.549). Intervention and control group have significant different result after receiving two type of training (p value: 0.000). The different of mean for both gown- up and de-gown results between two groups are statistically significant (p<.010 and p>.000). Conclusion: Infection control becomes more and more important nowadays. With proper training of PPE gown- up and de- gown technique, outbreaks of infectious or communicable diseases will be minimized. The results found that the performance of intervention group is better than control group. In this study, computer simulation is proved to be an effective way for teaching and learning.
