During the last decades, the global positioning system (GPS) technology that was widely used in military has become more and more available for costumers. In recent years, many mobile devices have a built-in low-cost GPS receiver. Then the location based service (LBS) technology is rapidly developed and has been commonly used in various activities of people. However, the GPS receiver's performance is seriously related to the line of sight of large portion of the sky. When large portion of the sky is not available, such as in Hung Hom, Hong Kong, the satellites signals are blocked or reflected, then it is seriously affected the performance of GPS receiver as well as the location based service. With the micro-fabrication technology highly improved in these years, the mobile platforms were rapidly developed. Therefore, according to the previous researches, a dead reckoning solution, based on measurement mobile device's inertial acceleration and angular velocity, as known as Inertial Navigation System (INS), are used in this thesis to support seamless navigation and accurate positions for LBS in bad GPS performance. Finally the GPS system and the INS are integrated by using an extended kalman filter (EKF).en_US
