Correlation of orthophoto and Demarcation District Sheeten_US
The Demarcation District (DD) Sheets, which were a good survey product in the 1900's, are still now the legal evidence of lot boundaries in New Territories. As DD Sheets have no coordinate reference, their absolute position referencing traditionally are done by means of correlation with the current detailed survey plan. Nowadays, correlations can be handily performed amongst survey plans, aerial photos and DD Sheets. This research works on the further improvement on accuracy and applicability of the correlation method. In this dissertation, DD Sheet grid georeferencing approaches (affine transformation and similarity transformation) have been compared. To generate accurate orthophotos, the effects of different exterior orientation settings are compared and evaluated. To achieve consistent regional correlation results, various correlation schemes are performed and their effects evaluated after comparisons. After tests, the scheme of affine transformation with multiple evenly distributed controls is recommended to use in DD Sheet grid georeferencing. Orthophotos are recommended to be generated based on accurate exterior orientation ground reference points. Transformations with adjustments are recommended to use in regional orthophoto and DD Sheet correlations, For daily application of land boundary surveys, it is recommended to follow the orthophoto lot-feature boundaries after the verification of the recommended correlation approach on blocks of DD lots.en_US
