dcterms.abstractThe increasing in population results in a high energy consumption in residential building sector of Hong Kong. It has been proven that air-conditioning is responsible for a large proportion of energy consumption. As the performance of fenestration design is critical to the building cooling load, consideration to each of the parameters in the fenestration design is essential for the designers to construct the most suitable system design for the building. During the study, twelve fenestration models were selected from the market and HTB2 was employed to evaluate the cooling load, solar load and fabric load in a residential building based on the typical living condition in Hong Kong. The critical parameters were due to window-to-floor area ratio, and transmittance, absorptance and U-value of glass. Finally, a simplified mathematical model was developed to evaluate the building cooling load. By inputting the fenestration design into the model, building designers could evaluate the energy performance.en_US
