Study of subway evacuation in Hong Kongen_US
With the development of public transportation, more and more people use subway station to transport. In Hong Kong, since subway stations has high occupant density, evacuation become important and gains people's concern. This study aims at find the potential problems that may exist in subway station during evacuation. The study focuses on the varies factors that may effect the evacuation. Site survey has been done in Hung Hom and Mong Kok subway stations to know the safety facilities and passengers' movement. Various scenarios has been built by the simulation software Pathfinder. Six aspects had been studied and the results indicate that the aspect ratio, the number of the staircases, the number of the exits and occupants' density might affect the evacuation performance. A case study had been conducted in Hong Hon subway station. Three situations were assumed and the results show that evacuation time is dramatically rise when the train's number increase from 1 to 3. Congestion occur in the staircase. Thus, controlling number of trains arrive the platform at the same time is very essential in reducing the evacuation time and improving the evacuation performance. Moreover, railway tracks can be a useful way during evacuation. The software Pathfinder is useful to assess evacuation performance in the exist buildings as well as future design.en_US
