Abstract: The greenhouse gas and global warming effects are the major concerns in protecting the environment. These effects lead to the development of environmental protection regulations and ordinances in different countries. In order to enhance and achieve the sustainability conscious, such as the energy saving, air quality improvement, reducing the pollution etc., the green and sustainable buildings design become popular in the world. There are many innovative green building designs in the world. However, the fire safety concerns in these green buildings are not studied carefully. Spadafora, who is currently the chief of logistics in Bureau of Operations, stated that "The fire service commonly has not been considered for input during the green building design process." He engages in the fire services for many years, and was recalled to the World Trade Center, where he supervised both rescue and fire suppression efforts at the North Tower and WTC 7 On the 9-11 incident. Also, the main construction features of the green buildings such as natural lighting and natural ventilation utilizations may contradict to the fire safety design concepts. In the fire safety design perspective, the real fire experiments and investigations are the best ways to obtain the precise data. However, there are many constraints in performing these studies, such as the budget, and the Hong Kong environmental regulations. After reviewing various code of practices, regulations, and previous researches, a scaled model was constructed to conduct the fire experiment, in order to investigate the fire safety concerns. These include the hot air spread, temperature measurement and flame height in the green building designs. It found that the flame height, temperature distribution and hot air spread are affected by the larger window sizes. The results are useful for providing the adequate information for the fire safety provision in green building designs and suggestions for research works in the future.
