Abstract: Sound is a vibration that propagates as a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a medium such as air or water, assembled of the range of frequencies that can be heard by humans. The nature of a sound wave propagating in the open space without boundaries has been considered, but it is not part of this study. Yet, sound propagates in the building and is therefore influenced by the presence of physical boundaries, and so it is important to understand how sound propagates in an enclosed space. One of the most basic principles of the physics of sound is that sound completely infiltrates a space. When sound is created in a space such as a room, it fills that space entirely. In fact, there is nowhere in a room where you are unable to hear the sound created within that space. In an acoustical environment, the energy of the initial sound wave is reflected at the boundaries of the room and the energy of that wave will sustain in a certain amount. We know that is reverberation. The amount of reverberation can be emphasized within certain frequencies that the space will resonate normally. Even though sound waves propagate in all directions, they do not spread out evenly. A sound wave will be projected more efficiently in a given direction if the sound is focused, as with a speaker. Sound waves also project differently with respect to frequency. This dissertation will investigate the behavior of acoustical parameters by measurements a large fan-shaped contemporary church hall with reference to how the space's characteristics affect the qualities of the perceived sound. The researcher will also examine, analyze and assess the acoustical parameters of the selected church hall by computer simulation. Finally, the researcher will look at how difference the acoustical parameters of the sound propagation is between hall with and without a balcony using computer simulation when the hall is unoccupied and occupied. The study will study how the balcony affects the "multipurpose church" in terms of acoustical treatments in the design of listeners' space, to give a good sound propagation environment in the church congregation in its future development.
