dcterms.abstractLight Pollution is one of the serious environmental problems in Hong Kong. Commercial activities are frequency in Hong Kong. With number of commercial sign board on building facade, unwanted light trespass enter residential units and cause adverse impact to human circadian clock. Hong Kong Government realized the situation and wants to control and minimize the light pollution. In 2008, Hong Kong Government clearly target to solve the problem of light pollution in Policy Address. In 2010, Hong Kong Green Building Council issue BEAM Plus guideline as a reference of green building guideline in Hong Kong. Controlling light pollution is one of the credits in the assessment. However, CIE 150 may not be suitable to apply in Hong Kong. CIE 150 is usually referenced as light pollution guideline. By dividing environmental zone, E0 - E4, CIE 150 set up criteria of parameter to identify light pollution. Composite buildings are usually found in urban area. Numbers of commercial activities are carried out in podium level. Commercial Advertisement signboard and exterior decorative lighting are usually installed in the facade of podium. As a result, vertical illuminance of sensitive receiver, such as residential buildings, may have higher vertical illuminance level in low level. All these guideline are voluntary based in Hong Kong. Both new building and existing building have no obligation to follow guidelines. As there is no mandatory ordinance, the current situation cannot be improved. In this study, the acceptance of light nuisance and the relationship between building height and vertical illuminance. Questionnaire, on-site measurement and HDR measurement were carried out to study the characteristics of light pollution in Hong Kong. From Questionnaire, the unacceptable illuminance levels are 33.63 Lux and 29.19 Lux respectively. Form HDR measurement, the unacceptance illuminance level 33.63 Lux are found around 9.56m from ground. As a result, vertical environmental zoning can be proposed according to the research result.en_US
