Abstract: The affordable housing which should be provided has become an urgent problem around the world, including developed countries and developing countries. Therefore, China is one of the biggest developing countries also lay emphasis on affordable housing development since 1990's. This is not only because China has the largest population in the world but also the affordable housing development is one of the effective ways to promote the urban housing reform in China. The housing issues of the lower middle-income groups in Xiamen experience serious problems. How to deal with the housing problems of them, how to encourage the affordable housing provision to satisfy the affordable housing demand for these needy people are the objectives of this research. In order to achieve these objectives, the methodologies on literature review, questionnaire survey, case study, interviews are conducted to examine the real affordable housing demand, current affordable housing provision in Xiamen, factors influencing the affordable housing satisfaction and expected preference, and comparison on the affordable housing provision whether to match the affordable housing demand. Finally, situation suggestions could be come up with to solve the limitation between the affordable housing demand and supply.
