dc.titleStudent use of learning space in academic library : a combined approach of post-occupancy evaluations (POE) and time-use survey (TUS)en_US
dcterms.abstractThis study uses a combined approach of Time Use Survey (TUS) and Post-Occupancy Evaluation (PoE) to conduct a case study on a local academic library in Hong Kong - the Pao Yue-Kong Library of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Time-Use Survey (TUS) is a standard approach that mainly investigate into where, when and what the occupants act within a concerned space. Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) is a popular method to identify occupant's satisfaction in a confined space. A total of 104 library surveys were received to discover the library space usage pattern as well as users' satisfaction of student users within a typical semester of university. Relations between in how the time-use and satisfaction of library users has also been explored through ANOVA analysis and multiple regression. Results has shown that (1) Individual study with use of laptop is the most popular in the library, (2) Lighting is the most satisfied criteria for every period of use in the library. (3) Acoustics is most related to the overall satisfaction among different components contributing to the users' satisfaction. (4) Space for discussion and socializing has significantly different profile of space satisfaction in comparing to other quiet study zones. The findings could be useful for academic library space planning to enhance the overall satisfaction and productivity of students in Hong Kong.en_US
