dcterms.abstractUrban parks have been shown to play an important role in mitigating the urban heat island effect and providing savings in cooling energy in summer. However, it is still not clear how the height of surrounding buildings or surface materials of parks will affect the microclimate. In this paper, the effects of three parks in Hong Kong on air temperature were investigated from November 2016 to April 2017. Air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation and wind speed were measured. Envi-met was used in this project to do some simulation. Comparing with these simulation results, park cooling effect were more obvious in November, and the largest temperature difference due to park cooling effect was about 2.3℃. In Yuet Wah Street Park, park cooling effect for increasing the surrounding buildings height to 200% and decreasing the surrounding buildings height to 0% was 0.49℃ and 0.86℃. So the surrounding building height could positively provide park cooling effect. Comparing with asphalt and concrete, soil was the best surface materials. The park cooling effect for using soil as the park surface materials was 0.05℃ larger than using asphalt as the surface materials. The positions of greeneries could also affect the park cooling effect. The result of this project showed that the park cooling effect of planting all the greeneries in the center of the park was larger than planting all the greeneries on the boundary of the park.en_US
