Abstract: This dissertation is to study the success factors of Hong Kong toy manufacturers. Toy is one of the oldest and largest export industries of Hong Kong. Hong Kong manufacturers played the OEM (original equipment manufacturing) role to US, Japan and European toy companies since 1970. They are always overseas buyers' reliable partners. However, competition has become keener, either from local or indigenous Chinese enterprises. Although OEM is a low profit business, many toy manufacturers are still engaged in it and do not want to move to ODM and OBM businesses. In this paper, the success factors and competitive advantages of toy industry is examined. Survey was conducted on toy manufacturers in order to verify the competitive advantage's model. Finally, I also identify their difficulties in engaging ODM and developing brand name products.
