Abstract: In actual case, the behavior of steel portal frame is nonlinear and P-Δ and P-δ moments and imperfections exist. In this paper, linear analysis and nonlinear analysis are used to design the portal frames. Linear analysis is based on Eurocode 3 and second order analysis is defined by Nida software. The strength and stability are compared basing on ultimate bearing capacity, obtained by these two methods. The results show second order analysis is more accurate and reliable.
