Abstract: | Precast prestress concrete pile is one of the pile types applied in Hong Kong. However, this type of pile is uncommon in Hong Kong, the local performance of the pile in resisting axial load shall be studied. In this dissertation, static load test, pile driving analysis (PDA) test and case pile wave analysis programme (CAPWAP) test had been carried out on a local site to justify the pile capacity under axial load. It had proved that the pile capacity satisfies the design axial loading of the pile by the current design standard in Hong Kong. Besides, since the piles has been constructed by hydraulic jacking and founded on stiff stratum, shaft friction resistance has large contribution on the total pile capacity. CAPWAP has provided sufficient information to the pile resistance force along pile shaft. By using the ground investigation result of surrounding soil stratum, it provides that in addition to the SPT-N value, the pile shaft resistance also corelates to additional soil properties of the same level. On the other hand, it is surprising that, according to the CAPWAP test, the pile shaft resistance does not obey the current local design approach at certain level below existing ground level. The possible explanations will be discussed in this study. Comprising the CAPWAP test results, the design of shaft friction resistance could be modified by some correction factors and criteria based on ground investigation and physical properties of pile. Finally, advice for further study and local practice will also be given in this dissertation. |
