dcterms.abstract | Web instructional text has a major role to play in a university. Production this type of text requires an understanding of the students' requirements and the characteristics of hypertext features that help to smooth the communication process. Success in producing effective instructions requires attention to the content as well as the structure of the text. This dissertation investigates students' perception of Internet communication and the presentation of web information during course registration. Three data sources were used to study the structure of the web site related to Internet communication. Arising from the analysis, two issues seemed to be important. First, the information on the web site is not logically grouped to facilitate the information retrieval process. Second, the hypertext features are not fully utilized to ease the communication process between the university and the students. Internet communication is still a developing area. To improve the readability of the web site, three solutions are proposed: (1) restructuring the web information on the communicative purposes, (2) use of the structural signs, and (3) association of the related information on the web site. These suggestions will help the students to understand the content of the web site and guide them to identify the required tasks from a set of circumstances. | en_US |
