dcterms.abstractCalculation of water demand loading serves as an important role in water plumbing system design. Different countries have defined the corresponding design references flow rates for different types of buildings by setting different standard. In Hong Kong, loading unit method is the most popular method in water system design. However, some reports are saying that there are high chance of overestimate water supply load of some types of buildings. To identify this problem, this dissertation measured the water usage pattern for students living in the Hung Hom Halls of Residence of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and analyzed the characteristics of their usage of fresh water and life style. The measurements start form 11/2017 and end at late 2/2018, a survey had also be done for cross checking. Due to some limitation, the measured results are not consistent that might cause difficulty on data analysis. During data analysis, the survey results are found to be higher than the standard values from I.O.P and B.S.I while the survey results shown that the standard values is higher than the actual measured results at various degrees. It is suggested that the standard valuse from I.O.P and B.S.I are applicable for a single bed room, however for a bunch of bedrooms, the standard should have some adjustment. The effect of weekend data and weekday data is found to be significant at the main stack than single bedroomen_US
