Abstract: With the rapid development of the hotel industry in Suzhou, the number of star rated hotels has increased gradually in past years. Since the competition among hotels is becoming increasingly intense, hotel operators must understand how guests make their hotel choices. Better communication programs can be developed to increase hotel occupancy and revenue. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influence guest' choice of hotel in Suzhou. Six 4 to 5 star hotels were selected for this study. Data were collected from business guests who stayed in the participating hotels during the survey period. Factor analysis was used to reveal the underlying dimensions of the influencing factors. T-tests and ANOVA tests were used to explore differences between first-time and repeat guests. Differences among demographic groups were also assessed. The results should provide valuable information to hotel operators in Suzhou. Among the 41 attributes investigated, sanitation, services quality and security are still the most important elements. Besides, most respondents attached great importance to network facilities, on-line booking and hotel image, especially for frequent or high income respondents.
