dc.title | Performance analysis and optimization for retro-commissioning : a case study on the chiller plant of a university building | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | In this research, the air-conditioning system performance of the university's building is analyzed and optimized with the chiller sequencing control optimization for energy efficacy improvement. The analysis and optimization focus on the aged campus building and their inefficiency air-conditioning system to identify the energy saving opportunity. The aim of this research focuses on energy saving through the low-cost optimization on the air-conditioning system. The main purpose of this research was to identify the energy saving opportunity of the air-conditioning system for a retro-commissioning process in the existing building. The case study shows how energy saving opportunity of the building has been identified. The possible solution is discussed for increasing the air-conditioning system efficiency and achieving energy saving without major equipment changing. During the calculation of the case study, the energy saving opportunity of aged building in Hong Kong university was identified. According to the record of Facility Management Office (FMO) of university, the chiller plant has been upgraded since 2009, new water-cooled chillers have been replaced for increasing the energy efficacy of the air-conditioning system. However, the replacement work costs a high price to install the new chillers. Moreover, the energy efficacy performance of the air-conditioning system will decrease annually due to the aging equipment. In order to improve the system efficacy, this study will analyze the energy consumption of previous annual air-conditioning system performance in the university's building to find out the possible solution for the system performance optimization. After analysis on the air-conditioning system performance, the calculation of the estimated annual energy saving of the proposed chiller sequencing control strategy is reported step by step in this report. | en_US |
