dcterms.abstractThis study evaluated the facilities performance for two badminton halls, namely the main hall of Shaw Sports Complex and the main hall of Kwong On Jubilee Sports Centre, in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Students studying in PolyU were the main user of these two halls. Their perceived performance and perceived importance were indicated by using a face-to-face questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was designed deliberately after several times of group discussion, which included basic information investigation, evaluation standard and its description. This required participant using a 7-point scale and 9-point scale to assess their satisfaction level and perceived importance between different pair-wise. In order to discard some responses with glaring errors, every questionnaire samples were checked by person and AHP test. The manual check was to eliminate samples that have missing information, and AHP test was to discard the inconsistent responses. After removing some unqualified samples, further study for ten items rated could be carried out. By combining users' subjective feeling investigation and the design codes of the badminton hall, the overall performance could be measured. The problems in two badminton halls were identified as well. Generally, for the main halls both in Shaw Sports Complex and Kwong On Jubilee Sports Centre, most of the facility performance of the rated items were in the maintain region or capitalize region. The main problem in the Shaw Sports Complex was the distance between sidelines and the insufficient brightness from fixtures. While in the main hall of Kwong On Jubilee Sports Centre, the background color of ceiling and wall, as well as the running area from sideline to the wall, were the main reason resulting in the low satisfaction degree or low performance rating. In conclusion, this study established an evaluation system particularly focusing on badminton halls. It was suggested to rearrange the layout of halls when they were used for badminton issues, especially to leave enough running area, which could improve the overall performance and ensure users safety. Meanwhile, blue, green or blue-green background color of wall and ceiling was recommended for Kwong On Jubilee Sports Centre, and this would create a clearer view for students.en_US
