Abstract: This study investigates the indoor air quality and thermal comfort level of Hong Kong Polytechnic University Lecture theatres via subjective assessment and objective measurement. Together with the data of air temperature, relative humidity, air speed, mean radiant temperature, carbon dioxide concentration, occupant activity and clothing insulation level measure in lecture theatres, this study provides general reference of University's lecture theatres indoor air quality and thermal comfort. Also, the sampling scheme of 8-hour intensive measurement is reviewed to investigate the possible of shortening the time of measurement. A 5-stars IAQ benchmarks will be used to assess the indoor environment of the lecture theatres. Total of nine theatres are chosen for measurement and total of 490 questionnaire was collected back during the measurement period. The overall acceptance of the thermal environment and IAQ of the lecture theatres, 84% and 91% of occupants think that the thermal environment and indoor air quality is acceptable. The whole period of the measurement is in March. Some important parameters are recorded in the measurement, the indoor air temperature ranging from 22.2 to 23.2 °C; air velocity ranging from 0.053 to 0.236 m/s; relative humidity ranging from 63.2 to 76.6%. The carbon dioxide concentration ranging from 518 to 1317 ppm; TVOCs concentration ranging from 78.6 to 188.6 μg/m3; RSP concentration ranging from 0.34 to 2.46 μg/m3.
