Investigation on the effectiveness of luminance measurement using HDR imaging technologyen_US
Luminance measurement and analysis is an essential progress when designing the lighting system of a building. Conventionally, spot luminance meters were used to measure the luminance of selected points of an interior. This type of physical measurement however spent extra efforts while comprehensive luminance analysis of an area cannot be achieved. An imaging technology, HDR technology could be applied for luminance measurement in a relatively effective and efficient manner. HDR images were produced by merging LDR images of different exposure levels where each pixel contains the luminance data of a wide range and was distributed over the span of sensitivity of human eye. With aid of relevant software, luminance data of selected region within an HDR image can be analyzed. Many researches have proofed the potential of application of this technology in lighting design for different occasions including office lightings, daylight estimation and reproducing tone mapping of a scene. However, few studies discussed about the influence of numbers and exposure ranges of original LDR images and the resultant HDR image. This thesis answers to this gap by comparing the luminance data obtained from differently merged HDR images with the physical measurement data, hence seeking the optimum accuracy of luminance measurement using HDR imaging technology.en_US
