Abstract: The trend of urbanization is becoming more and more pronounced, and the urban thermal environment deserves more attentions. In outdoor environment, there is no doubt that the value of parks in city lies in many aspects. Urban parks provide recreational venues for citizens and moderate the microclimate of the surrounding environment. In design of parks and urban planning, aesthetic considerations are necessary, but thermal comfort of human should be considered more. In previous studies, factors affecting the cooling ability for parks have been explored in many ways, and the effects of greening, shading, pavement materials and human psychological factors on thermal comfort have been studied, while the configuration factors of urban parks were mentioned less. Parks and surrounding buildings are interacting, so the effect of the surrounding buildings on the thermal comfort of the park is also worth exploring. This dissertation focuses on the impact of park configuration and the surrounding buildings on the thermal comfort in the park. Factors of this study include area, length to width ratio (hereinafter referred to as L/W ratio) and orientation of the parks, the height of the surrounding buildings and the distance from the park to buildings. All factors were combined and simulated by the thermal environment simulation software ENVI-met. Through the analysis of the results of ENVI-met, the pattern of the influence of various factors on thermal comfort was discovered. It was found that each factor had distinct influence, and they were interacting. In surveyed parks, the temperature gradually decreased from the boundary to the center. In most cases, the temperature of the park decreased as the area increases. When the L/W ratio was equal to 2, the temperature, wind speed and average radiant temperature of the park reached a maximum. The effect of the distance from the building on thermal comfort is obvious, the greater the distance, the lower the air temperature in the park. The height of the surrounding buildings also has a certain impact, which affects the wind speed and solar radiation of the park. The conclusions of this study can provide certain help for the design of parks and urban planning.
