dc.title | Estimate of the heat release rate in burning train car using fire model | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | High-speed rail systems are expanding at a rapid rate worldwide, and high-speed trains carry thousands of passengers between destinations every day. As a train in a high-speed rail system, the China Railway High-speed 1 (CRH1) train is widely used in mainland China. Researchers have performed full-scale burning tests on the main combustibles (seat, curtain and passenger luggage) in CRH1 trains. This study aims to determine the heat release rate of the second-class compartment of the CRH1 train using the fire simulation software Consolidated Model of Fire and Smoke Transport (CFAST) and Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). The model is constructed using the actual size of the train and the heat release rate of the seat as measured by experiment, and it is assumed that the fire points are located in the front and rear areas of the train. The results of the front and rear area simulations show that the heat release rate (HRR) can reach 40 MW and 43 MW, respectively, which is similar to the data collected from full-scale vehicle burn experiments in Sweden and South Korea. The fire load and HRR of CRH1 trains are significant. The design of the train should be reconsidered to reduce the use of flammable materials and install fire protection systems. | en_US |
