Abstract: | This dissertation is to study some issues in building spatial data infrastructure (SDI) in Mainland China (here after call China). A comparative analysis of SDI (as a whole) in China with that in other countries is firstly made. Concentration is then placed on the data issue in China. A comparative analysis of the issue on custody of spatial data is made between China and other countries. Particularly important are the copyright and the pricing of the spatial data. A recommendation is given on these two issues, which hopefully will help the usage and the development of the SDI in China. Standard is the most important key for different SDI users of making full use of their own SDI and for exchanging data with the others. Without very specific standard, there can only be local SDI existed, a comparative analysis between China and other countries is given.
