dcterms.abstractAs the world population increasing, the aging population problem appears to many countries. Hong Kong was one of the places that have serious aging population. Because of the special needs of the elderly, the elderly aid facilities and environment were in demand for elderly living. The concept of age-friendly city then appeared for the age-friendly environment evaluation, and the index system for the evaluation was summarized. This study is to improve the old index system of the age-friendly city, which provides indicators only but not the index calculation, to a quantitatively calculable index system using spatial data. The main method of this calculation was the service area analysis, which the spatial enhancement of the study. This study used three indicators of the medical facilities, the recreation and sport facilities, and the community centers as example for index grade calculation of the indicator from the data of Hong Kong. The coverage of the facilities service area then calculated into the index grade. Because of the lack of data for other indicators, the index calculation process of the entire index system was unable in this study. However, the results of examined indicators showed that many areas (over 68 percent) in Hong Kong were lack of recreation and sport facilities, which service area coverage below 50 percent, and about 30 percent of areas' medical facilities service coverage were under 50 percent, but most of the regions were having short distance to a community center. This demonstrated the area's shortage in terms of age-friendly environment in Hong Kong, but helps the Hong Kong government to define the areas that need to pay attention to age-friendly environment improvement, also helps the elderly to pick their living environment.en_US
