Abstract: To help new students, staffs and other people who want to get familiar with PolyU campus and find point of interest quickly, the study has designed and developed an Android-based VR app called "VR Campus Navigation and Query System". The system involves up-to-date VR technologies. VR devices that released in recent two years are introduced in our study to provide VR support. Unlike other mobile or web-based virtual campus system, the novel VR platform provides more impressive and attractive visualization way and more effective and directly-perceived navigation solution. The system is developed by Unity based on C#, while the 3D model is built using SketchUp. The system provides multiple functions including roaming, navigation and information query. With this system, people can view campus scene without coming to PolyU personally and get a quick understanding of PolyU campus environment at any place. The system also enable users to be navigated to point of interest they select in the system menu. Relevant information of destination will be displayed for users. The places that listed on the system menu are basic facilities relevant to students and staffs, such as catering service, clinics, sports facilities, lecture theatre, etc. Besides, when the user is standing in any square in the virtual campus and want to know something about the building around him, the query function will satisfy his wish. He can also open Minimap to see his relative position to the whole campus.
