dc.title | The effect of task-based online group work on foreign language anxiety | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Task-based language teaching (TBLT) and group work stimulate foreign language learning and reduce foreign language anxiety (FLA). The current study intended to use an app (DingTalk) installed in mobile phone or computer and combine TBLT and group work to create a stress-free environment for learners to discuss the extent of how the online pedagogy has a positive influence on Foreign Language Anxiety and whether the synchronous session or the asynchronous session is more effective. Twenty-three Chinese students, around 16 years old, answered the Foreign language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) to measure the scale of Foreign Language Anxiety before and after interventions. Interviews with the class teacher and some of these learners were also conducted. Questionnaires and interviews are employed to testify the effect of task-based online group work on Foreign Language Anxiety of these students. From this study, it is found that Chinese high school students in rural areas experience high level of FLA. After the treatments, data suggest that task-based online group work can reduce Foreign Language Anxiety and that the synchronous session is more effective to reduce FLA than the asynchronous session. | en_US |
