dc.title | Anti-plagiarism institutional policies in Hong Kong higher education | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | As an issue of great concern in worldwide academia, plagiarism has been studied from many different aspects. Previous researches range from student's knowledge of, attitudes to, and engagement in plagiarism to staff's perspectives on and responses to plagiarism. Institutional discourses on and approaches to plagiarism has also gained researchers' interest and attention with the increase of relevant studies in both Chinese and overseas context. In spite of Hong Kong's unique history and different educational context from that of Mainland China, there is a conspicuous lack of research on Hong Kong higher education institutions' responses to plagiarism. Therefore, this paper aims to bridge this gap by examining eleven Hong Kong higher education institutions' anti-plagiarism policies at the undergraduate level. The results of content analysis and thematic analysis reveal that although all the institutions adopt a combination of approaches to plagiarism with varying priority to different discourses. The reported inconsistency in institutional policies and academic support across institutions suggests the need for communication and cooperation in containing plagiarism among Hong Kong higher education institutions. | en_US |
