dcterms.abstractStructural health monitoring can contribute to optimization of decision making during the lifecycle management of bridge but its significance is usually ignored as for the limited understanding of the value of information provided by the structural health monitoring system. Application of value of information analysis approach can help to address this contradiction in the real world efficiently. This paper proposed a numerical simulation approach to quantify the value of structural health monitoring information. Impacts of different variables, including the accuracy of system, the cost of structural reparation and the prior probability of structural failure, on the value of information is examined through sensitivity analysis. The model was validated using a case study of the longĀ­term monitoring of the Streicker Bridge and some constructive suggestions were proposed to improve the efficiency of monitoring according to simulation results. This research contribute to the body of structural health monitoring by having developed a simulation model that not only offer an improved understanding of the value of structural health monitoring, but is also capable of offering constructive suggestions to improve the monitoring efficiency.en_US
