Mechanical properties of high strength steel S690 and S355 funnel-shaped coupons under low cycle high strain testsen_US
The project aims to investigate structural behaviour of high strength steel S690 under i) monotonic tensile tests and ii) low cycle high strain tests. A total of 4 monotonic tensile tests and 24 cyclic tests have been carried out to examine the basic mechanical properties and hysteretic behaviour of the S690 and the S355 steel materials. Both cylindrical and funnel-shaped coupons are taken from S690 and S355 steel plates with different thicknesses. The cyclic tests are carried out with various load application frequencies to achieve specific target strains. It is found in these cyclic tests of S355 and S690 steel materials that the loading cycles that the coupons can sustain decrease gradually when target strain increased from ±1.2% to ±10.0% under loading frequencies of 0.1Hz, 0.5Hz, 1.0Hz and 2.0Hz. The research will contribute to the understanding of structural behaviour of the high strength steel, especially in ductility under seismic actions so that these steel materials are applicable to seismic resistant structures.en_US
