dcterms.abstract | Global Transaction Management (GTM) is a mechanism of Multi-DataBase System (MDBS) to control the global transactions which are executed in a number of multiple autonomous DataBase Management Systems (DBMSs). Although each Local DataBase System (LDBS) can ensure local serializability and solve the problem of local deadlock, it does not mean that the global transaction can be globally serializable and free from global deadlock. The major function of GTM is that without any changes in the LDBSs and in the presence of local transactions, it should guarantee global serializability and freedom from global deadlock. In this dissertation, a GTM package to solve the problems in MDBS is introduced and developed as portable programs. The whole GTM package is written in Internet language-Java. It can be applied in the Internet environment easily and is portable across different database systems. To demonstrate the handling of global transactions in MDBS, a sample application of Internet banking and Internet ticket booking system is developed with this GTM package. As a result, in the future development of other applications about MDBS in the Internet environment, the developer can reuse the functions provided by this GTM package to handle the global transactions. Moreover, a database engine to simulate the database which uses Serialization Graph Test (SGT) concurrency control protocol is developed. Performance for the GTM package is evaluated in the commercial database which guarantees strictness and in the simulated database which provides strongly recoverable history. | en_US |
