dcterms.abstractPedestrians red light violation behavior is one of the main causes of signalized intersection accidents and pedestrians are more prone to suffer serious injuries than other road users. Therefore, determining the influencing factors of pedestrian red light violations is of great significance for reducing pedestrian risk. In this study, a video survey was used to study the impact of personal factors (demographics and characteristics) and environmental factors (signal characteristics and traffic conditions and other' behavior) on pedestrian red light violations. There were 1145 pedestrians' crossing intersection behavior recorded at the two-stage signalized intersection where the main roads and Tokyo Road of Cheung Sha Wan in Hong Kong. The binary regression model indicates that the age of pedestrians, the presence of running behavior, the presence of companion, whether the signal phase changes are seen, the crossing time, the number of pedestrians around, the violation of others and the traffic volume will affect this tendency. The survey results indicate that effective law enforcement and education and engineering measures can be used to reduce the tendency of pedestrians to violate the red light and improve pedestrian safety at signalized intersections.en_US
