dc.title | A comparison study of the performance of commercial ultrafiltration and nanofiltration membranes for advanced wastewater treatment | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Water scarcity is one of the most persuasive problems afflicting people all over the world. Membrane technologies which have been intensively investigated are becoming a crucial solution to address the water problems. Among all the membrane processes, ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF) can realize the reuse of wastewater for non-potable purposes such as toilet flushing and irrigation. Under this background, we used NF and UF membranes to treat the secondary effluent of Sha Tau Kok Sewage Treatment Works in Hong Kong. The water permeation and the rejection of various pollutants such as total organic carbon and suspended solid, by the two types of commercial membranes, were compared. Experiments demonstrated that nanofiltration membrane was more effective than ultrafiltration membrane in wastewater treatment. Taken together, we revealed the differences between nanofiltration membranes and ultrafiltration membranes in advanced wastewater treatment, as well as their respective advantages and disadvantages, and put forward the idea of optimizing the process of Sha Tau Kok Sewage Treatment Works. | en_US |
