| dcterms.abstract | The Canton Fair (also known as China Import and Export Fair) has the longest history and biggest scale in Chinese exhibition history (Jin & Weber, 2008). It had experienced a tremendous growth over the last decades. However, its performance started to decline due to the challenging global business environment and the emergent challenges in the upcoming years due to US-China trade tariff conflicts (a 3.88% drop in terms of buyers; He, 2019). To remain competitive, the Canton Fair has considered adopting the latest technology and upgrade its infrastructure, as the technology usage in the Canton Fair Complex Centre was still very primitive and basic at this moment (Appendix 3). In this study, the researcher applied a qualitative approach to explore the opportunity of adopting a smart exhibition framework in the Canton Fair Complex Centre. Specifically, this study employed and extended the DeLone and McLean Success Model (2004) of information systems (IS) to provide a comprehensive framework for measuring and improving the performance of smart systems in large exhibitions such as the Canton Fair. In-depth interviews were conducted with the Canton Fair attendees, and followed by the data analytical process. After that, the study came up with findings and recommend strategies to facilitate the smart exhibition framework adoption and technology upgrade for stakeholders in the centre. The research findings and recommended strategies could also assist the Canton Fair Complex Centre to strengthen the competitive advantages and maintain its market leading position in the Greater Bay Area region. Finally, a smart exhibition framework and technology upgrade could assist the attendees to improve their productivity and efficiencies while surfing in the centre. | en_US |
