An exploratory study of the critical success factors of supply chain management of fast fashion in Chinaen_US
Consumer-driven phenomenon of 'Fast Fashion' has been emerged in last two decades in the domestic and global fashion industry. The rapid-changing fashion trends and the ever-changing consumers' behaviors are the two key driving forces of the domestic and international fashion brands to refresh and deliver their newest and trendy fashion products and services to the markets and consumers in the most frequent and faster manner in order to satisfy the sophisticated and changing demands of the markets and consumers. Fast Fashion is proven to be one of the most effective and efficient business phenomena to develop, maintain, enhance, optimize and sustain the unique competitive advantages of Fast Fashion companies on the one hand, and attain their supply chain performances and ultimately organizational performances on the other. China is ranked as the world's third largest fashion market with rapid economic growth, improved standard of living and increased purchasing power in the last few decades. The keen and severe competition of the fashion market in China is the catalyst of the fashion market to continuously respond and adapt the dynamic consumer market with high level of market responsiveness to satisfy the ever-changing consumers' behaviors and preferences. Henceforth, the logical question to Fast Fashion companies in China will then be: Is Fast Fashion both feasible and applicable to allow Fast Fashion companies in China to attain similar and the most desirable performances and results, especially supply chain performances, as compared with their counterparts in the global Fast Fashion arena? On this basis, the objective of this study is to identify and develop the critical success factors of supply chain management of Fast Fashion in China and their supply chain performance implications. It is noted that there are limited prior studies focusing on Fast Fashion, which is the new and emerging phenomenon in the fashion industry, especially in the case of China.en_US
The findings of this study identified six critical success factors of supply chain management and six supply chain performance measures of Fast Fashion in China. Specifically, Consumer Orientation and Production Management were found to be the two most prominent critical success factors of supply chain management of Fast Fashion in China as both of them were significantly associated with all the six supply chain performance measures of Fast Fashion in China. The statistical findings of this study were further validated and triangulated from practical perspective by the case studies of two prominent Fast Fashion companies in China, namely 6IXTY8IGHT and Urban Revivo. This study fills the research gap and enriches the body of knowledge relating to the studies of critical success factors of supply chain management, in particular in the spectrum of Fast Fashion in China, and their corresponding relationships with supply chain performances. This study also provides invaluable and practical insights to Fast Fashion companies in China to prioritize and allocate necessary resources to formulate, develop, enhance and maintain their most relevant critical success factors of supply chain management in order to generate the most desirable supply chain performances that ultimately yield their overall organizational performances.en_US
