Management issues for manufacturing excellence in a supply chain context: with case studies in a FMCG companyen_US
This paper studied the development of various management approaches and analytical tools to achieve manufacturing excellence. It is argued that there is a continuous shift in scope and unit of analysis. Traditionally, manufacturing excellence has been achieved through industrial engineering technique, MRP, JIT, TOC and TQM; the emergence of supply chain management has prompted organizations to integrate internal operations with external activities to improve business results. The shift to focus on SCM context has highlighted a wide range of activities and management issues not being encountered by organizations in the past. This study proposes a plan to implement SCM in an organization. Given such a wide range of activities, the scope of analysis is limited to a few case studies. They indeed serve to illustrate the complexity of management issues. Finally, generalized success factors to achieve manufacturing excellence in SCM context appear in the conclusions.en_US
