|Abstract:||The purpose of this study is to investigate MA students' motivation on admission essay questions in HK and the potential admission essay questions that English-related MA students expect to have. A questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were conducted to discern the results. Quantitative analysis reveals that students' English reading and writing proficiency level, confidence in reading and writing, English listening and speaking proficiency level, and confidence in speaking and listening have no impacts on MA students' anxiety to admission essay questions. Meanwhile, students' anxiety on admission essay questions does not correlate with their age and the city they live in while there is a relationship between MA students' anxiety about admission essay questions and gender, and females present less anxiety than males on admission essay questions. Further evidence of these conclusions was also found in the following qualitative analysis. Meanwhile, qualitative analysis implies that personality including introversion and extroversion and students' experience which involves familiarity of field and frequency use of words of the prompt and the specificity or level of abstraction of the prompt affect the students level of anxiety.|
