Abstract: | Elevators, the most ubiquitous transportation system in metropolises, are providing us a convenient living. However, failure in the maintenance of the elevator may cause people using that elevator injury or even death. Hence it is important to have an analysis of the maintenance performance of elevators. Reported in this paper is an examination of the maintenance orders of the elevators in a residential estate, which was recorded in the lift failure report and the lift logbook. The case study on 24 elevators in a residential estate reveals the factors affecting the maintenance demand and performance of an elevator in the residential building. The results demonstrate that factors such as human behavior, power grid, user pattern, and COVID-19 will also affect the maintenance demand and performance of an elevator. The paper concludes with the recommendation that the contractor company could increase the manpower input during the time with higher maintenance demand, adding an uninterruptible power system to the elevator to prevent electricity interruption, and educate the users on the fault reasons. |
