| dcterms.abstract | The population of old people is increasing in Hong Kong. According to the government information, in 1991-92, about one third health care services in Hong Kong were consumed by people aged over 65. The consumption is expected to be increasing in the following years. Geriatric service in Hong Kong is developing rapidly to meet the need of demographic changes. However, resource for health care services is limited. Geriatric service is solely part of the health care service system. Increasing demand of services does not mean resources should be allocated proportionally. As a result, clinical outcome indicator for demonstration of effectiveness of services is increasing in importance in determination of resources allocation for geriatric services. In view of the characteristics of the aging process, effective tool for justification of service outcome is difficult to formulate. The critical issue is resting on the value of resources allocation for service when functional improvement is unlikely to achieve and functional deterioration is ultimately the only expected outcome. Through literature review, quality of life seems the solution for the issue. A Clinical Outcome Indicator in Geriatric Setting is then formulated through content analysis of literature. The assessment items of the indicator are constructed based on a postulated conceptual framework of quality of life. The outcome indicator is then undergone content validity test and inter-rater reliability test. Specific features on the feasibility of the outcome indicator for clinical use is demonstrated in the study. | en_US |
