Assessment on fire behaviors in large open-plan compartmentsen_US
In recent years, the number of high rise buildings and large scale open plan buildings, such as shopping arcades and airports, has been increasing greatly since there is a rapid economic development and urbanization around the world and the enhancement of people's lifestyle. Although this type of building can have more flexibility and simpler way of the construction compared with small compartments, there are some problems on the fire engineering design to ensure the fire safety because of the complexity of the structure and indoor environment, and the uncertainty of the fire behaviors in large compartments.en_US
In this research project, fire simulation was used as a major way for investigating the fire development and fire behaviors of large compartments using computer simulation software of PyroSim. Fire behaviors in large compartments are different from that in small compartments which implies that some uncertain features are happened. This issue is still being investigated by many professionals. This research is focusing on fire behavior with different conditions including the time of flashover and the travelling fire behaviors since there are many factors for fire development and behaviors in large compartments which provides us chances to know more about actual situations during the fire.en_US
In this research project, computational fire simulation tools will be used to simulate fire scenarios in large compartments by setting up fire model and studying fire behaviors during fire simulations. The different situations for fire development in large compartments will also be considered. The fire simulation results will be calculated and shown from the simulation. Besides, discussions on the data analysis from simulation results was carried out to investigate fire behaviors in large compartments in details. The simulation results can show that fire behaviors of large compartments and the movement of the travelling fires can be affected by different factors such as the fire load and the size of openings.en_US
