Abstract: This study explores how to use a portfolio of FinTech enablers—AI (A), Blockchain (B), Cloud Computing (C), and Big Data analysis (D)—to support alternative credit scoring and targeting strategies of digital consumer finance. Leveraging the ABCD and alternative credit scoring, I provide a process model for intelligent digital consumer financing where financial institutions’ competitive advantages and credit performance are enhanced and improved. In this study, Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework is applied not only for the adoption of technological innovation but also for the consideration of performance and being theorized as a qualitative research protocol. The research findings demonstrate that (1) the financial industries can realize the transformation of digital consumer finance via FinTech enablers and alternative credit scoring; (2) the strategies of intelligent credit scoring solutions are proven to credit risk assessment and process; (3) the utilization of FinTech technologies can enhance financial institutions’ competitive advantages and improve firm’s performance. In addition, from the financial institutions’ perspective, expansion in customer acquisition, better risk management, the ability to develop tailor-made financial products and services, better customer services, and more efficient operations are achieved. In practice, financial institutions can attain higher profits, enhance competitiveness and improve service levels with reduced costs and risks when transforming their lending business into digital form. Overall, based on the alternative credit scoring and appropriate targeting strategies, this research offers new insights to new market entrants to set up digital consumer financing businesses in a highly regulated finance industry.
