dc.title | The culture clash : an insight into conflict avoidance & resolution seen from the Hong Kong perspective | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | This project provides an insight into conflict avoidance and resolution as seen from the Hong Kong perspective. Through an in-depth analysis of the cultural awareness of Hong Kong and mainland Chinese managers, and, by comparison, a parallel study examining the situation from the standpoint of Western managers, it has been possible to draw conclusions as to the current situation. The results prove that there is a definite need for cultural awareness to be an integral part of management training. Some Chinese commercial organisations that have just entered the international market, but until now have had little to do with foreigners, appear substantially unaware of Western cultural values. Similarly, with the opening up of the market in China, Western organisations that have not had dealings there before are starting out on new ventures in the PRC without much insight into the value systems of the people they need to deal with. By highlighting the specific value traits and the cultural 'no-go' areas, this project serves to form the basis for a "Cultural Awareness" training package which will be a value to the Hong Kong business community as a whole. | en_US |
